The Tomcat Tamara Trike is intended for hoist users, or those with balance, coordination and overweight problems.
It is the only special needs trike in the world designed for hoist users and the design allows for simple, quick and easy transfer.
It is easily transported and assembled thanks to the two piece frame system and can be reconfigured from tricycle to trailer in just a few seconds – hitch it to an adult bike and the whole family can enjoy a cycle together!
A swivel saddle allows the hoist to approach from either side. When the rider is seated, the saddle swivels to the front and the backrest returns to its preset ride position. The whole operation takes just seconds, which significantly reduces time, stress and effort for rider and carers alike.
The Tamara design is light but very rigid, making if suitable for obese riders who find they sway uncomfortably on other tricycles. The backrest is removable which coupled with our signature “Quick-Release” frame system, makes the Tamara one of our most transportable trikes.
Needless to say – being a Tomcat – the Tamara is bespoke for the rider (or group) from the wheels up because they believe it is better to make your trike after we understand your difficulties and not before! Tomcat products are about you – not us!
The Tomcat Tiger Trike is designed specifically to match the narrow pelvis of small children and each trike custom-built to meet individual needs.
It can be built to be quite simple, or to be supportive depending on the rider. Additionally, the rider can be independent or they can be supervised.
It features a maintenance-free and friction-free drive system so any child can pedal it – even those children with very low muscle tone!
Small children have a narrow pelvis, but a standard pedal span rarely reflects that fact! Tomcat wanted Tiger riders’ posture to be totally natural, so we manufactured our own special crank and pedal system.
We saved a full 4.5cm on the pedal span by tucking the drive away inside the Tigers cool looking frame, because when pedals match pelvis, the legs are naturally comfortable and the Tiger becomes the ideal therapy tool for growing bodies.
The Tomcat Fizz was the first special needs trike to have carer steering and braking from the rear and the first to be truly safe on public roads.
At its heart it is a custom built, single speed trike, with a tough, light and stable frame, that dissembles in seconds for easy transport and can be converted into a trailer in seconds.
It is ideally suited to riders with mild to severe visual, physical, or learning difficulties.
Since Tomcat’s signature invention of Carer Control™, the Fizz has enabled thousands of children to cycle in safety, with their family or peers, with all the benefits that brings.
The Tomcat Silver Bullet is a road trike for riders with mild to profound and multiple disabilities.
It is suitable for teenagers through to adults and has all the outstanding build quality you would expect from Tomcat and offers Power Assist for riders who suffer from weakness and fatigue.
It can be disassembled in seconds for easy transport in a family car! The Bullet is an outstandingly versatile 5-speed machine that is ideal for shopping and everyday use, but lightweight, fast, and comfortable enough for sports and leisure too.
Its low sitting posture, differential drive, and rear axle disc braking, make it highly stable when cornering fast or braking hard. Tomcats superb, “Removable Basket and Carrier” comes as optional extra, and the Silver Bullet can be fully accessorised with foot, leg, trunk and head supports.
Electric Power Assist, Carer Control, Carer Braking and Trailer conversion are optionally available.
It’s easily transportable when the “Two Piece” transportable frame is chosen and it is light enough to be stored on a garage wall – Wow!
The Tomcat Apprentice is a road trike for riders with mild to profound, and multiple disabilities. It is suitable for teenagers through to adults.
The Bullet Apprentice™ is a single speed machine that is ideally suited to riders requiring a little or lot of carer supervision.
It has very open access, exceptional stability and it is ideally suited to semi-ambulant or hoist using riders when the optional swivel seat is used.
Like all Bullet models, it can be fully accessorised, with foot, leg, trunk and head supports.
We offer free assessments throughout Scotland when our fully trained Product Specialists take time with the rider and their family and health professional to ascertain suitability and advise appropriate accessories.

Typical Apprentice options might include;
The Tomcat Apprentice has a fixed drive as standard, or an optional free-wheeling or combination drive, (both) if preferred.
It is the world’s first Hand-Propelled trike that can be fitted with a Carer Control system, for the parent to brake, steer and aid propulsion from behind.
It is designed for users with wide ranging disabilities but no use, or extremely little use of their legs.
Children and adults with little or no use of their legs, amputees etc
Tomcats Handy Trike is very much designed with learning difficulties, poor motor skills and rider safety in mind. It’s a classy looking machine with single or multi-speed drives and many important features not available on other hand propelled trikes such as an optional Two-Piece Frame, trailer bar, hand AND foot drive, and either Carer Control or Carer Braking.
However, its key Hand Propelled feature is its balanced cranks.
When children have poor strength, co-ordination or learning difficulties, they struggle with the pendulum effect of paired crank handles and are content to rock the handles back and forth, (which is unproductive). By balancing the drive system, we have overcome that issue and riders find the Tomcat HP, simple, intuitive, and easy to use.
The unique features of Tomcat Special Needs Trikes set them apart from alternatives. These include;
Tomcat Special Needs Trikes founder, Bob Griffin, has been a lifelong professional engineer, with many years experience in manufacturing, marine engineering and innovation.
In 1997, Bob met his wife Anne, and her son Thomas who had Angelman’s syndrome, a profound disability, typified by severe learning difficulties, sleep disturbance and poor coordination.
Bob and Tom soon became best friends and Bob looked for ways to help Tom sleep through increasing his exercise. At that time, trikes were considered unsuitable for children like Tom on safety and ability grounds, however Bob invented an entirely new kind of trike called a “Tomcat” which overcame the difficulties that were holding children like Tom back.
Its main feature was “Carer Control” – a rear steering and braking innovation that put the carer in control of every aspect of the child’s safety.
It became Tomcat signature invention, and the industry standard for special needs trike manufacturers worldwide, however, Tomcats patented system remains the gold standard by which all others are judged.
In 2013, Tomcat won the Queens award for Innovation for the 30 plus innovations that Tomcat developed for the disabled community.
