Travel Mobility Scooters

Travel scooters, often referred to as boot scooters, are designed to be highly portable so that they can fit in the boot of a car or indeed taken on holiday by plane or by sea.

Most travel scooters today disassemble into around 4 or 5 components thereby making the scooter easier to manage when lifting in and out of the car.

Another method is a collapsible frame where the scooter will literally fold in half.

These scooters are ideal for travel abroad as they generally have a lithium battery rather than the usual gel battery pack that all other mobility scooters use.

Lithium batteries are approved by the aviation authorities for air travel.  Boot scooters have a maximum speed of  3.5 to 4 mph

Pavement Mobility Scooters

If you do not plan on transporting your scooter by car then you should probably consider a bigger scooter which can either be used on the pavement or the road.

Our pavement scooter range is for those who want a larger scooter than a boot scooter but do no plan on using on the road.

Pavement scooters are class 2 vehicles which means that it is not legal to drive them on the road but they can be used to cross the road at a safe place.  They are limited to 4 mph.

Road legal Mobility Scooters

Larger scooters are generally class 3 scooters which are generally capable of travelling at 8 MPH on the road and at 4 MPH on the pavement or in a pedestrian zone.

Road scooters generally have a much better range than pavement and boot scooters and typically can do around 20- 30 miles on a single charge.

Off-road mobility scooters are suitable for use both on the road and off the road much like 4×4 cars.

The performance of each off-road scooter varies between models but many like the Molten Rock Boma and the TGA Vita X can deal with snow, water and rough terrain.

If you enjoy the outdoors or simply go across country for some fresh air, you should consider an off-road scooter.

If you do plan on using your off-road mobility scooter on the road, you will have to display a tax disc.  Taxing your class III mobility scooter is very straight forward and free of charge if you are disabled and if you buy your scooter from John Preston Healthcare, we will do all the paperwork for you.
